Can I bring my vape to Thailand?

Short answer

No. E-cigarettes have been illegal here since 2014 — importing one can mean up to ten years' imprisonment, and using one can mean arrest. Leave it at home entirely.

The law, without softening

Thailand banned e-cigarettes in 2014, and the government's own guidance for tourists is unambiguous: importing one is punishable by up to ten years' imprisonment or a fine of five times the product's value, or both — with the device, its packaging, and even the vehicle carrying it subject to confiscation.

Use inside the country is an offence too. The official warnings state plainly that anyone vaping in Thailand can be arrested, foreigners and Thais alike.

This is enforced on real tourists

The embassy notices exist because of a pattern: foreign travellers unaware of the ban facing on-the-spot fines or arrest. This is not a dormant rule that only smugglers meet — a vape in a beach bag is enough.

The advice from the Thai state is total: do not bring the device, and do not bring anything associated with it, the liquid included.

What this means for a smoker's trip

Conventional cigarettes remain legal to buy and smoke in designated areas, so the trip does not have to be nicotine-free — it has to be vape-free.

If you travel with a vape out of habit, the airport packing check is the moment that matters. The cost of forgetting is out of all proportion to the convenience of remembering.

Good to know

  • The liquid and accessories are banned too, not just the device
  • Conventional cigarettes remain legal in designated smoking areas
  • Check your bags before the flight — that is the moment that matters
